ARCIA Meet Department of Communications to Discuss Radio Communications Act.

On 2nd June ARCIA President, Hamish Duff travelled to Canberra and had a meeting with the Department of Communications regarding the ARCIA response to the review of the Act.

The meeting went well beyond the planned time and ARCIA is being accorded much respect from both the Department and the ACMA in discussions on the review of the Act.

Meetings such as this and our regular meetings with the ACMA are reinforcing ARCIA’s position as the ‘Peak industry body’ for the Land Mobile Radio industry, plus our opinions are respected in comments on other areas of the spectrum as well. Our thanks to Hamish for giving up a day of his valuable time to meet with the Department officers.

Response to Department of Communications and Arts – Radiocommunications Bill 2016
April, 2016

During late 2015 and early 2016, the Minister for Communications requested his Department to do a review of spectrum management with a view to reducing the amount of red tape and improving the efficiency of the spectrum management role with better access to spectrum as it is a valuable resource. The guidelines and invitation to respond are available here. ARCIA had meetings with Department officials and responded to the Legislative Proposals Paper. This is an ongoing review and ARCIA will continue to be involved to represent the Land Mobile Radio (LMR) industry. Read ARCIA’s response.
