Highlights From the WA Networking Event.
Last week the radio communications industry came together for the annual ARCIA Industry Dinner and Networking event in Perth. This year the dinner was held in conjunction with Comms Connect at Hotel Aloft in Rivervale.
The Comms Connect conference is an excellent opportunity to learn about industry best practice and emerging, innovative technologies and this year’s Perth program featured an excellent program with quite a bit of information on the Internet of Things (IoT). This technology is becoming a part of the overall wireless communications eco-system and attendees were fortunate to gain insight and knowledge about it.
As always, people in the industry appreciated the opportunity to relax and network after Comms Connect at the Industry Dinner and Networking event. This year our guest speaker was Dr Alex Grant from Myriota who has developed techniques for operating IOT devices over satellite systems, thus opening up control and monitoring capabilities over very remote areas.
Another highlight of the evening was the announcement of the Western Australia Industry Advancement Award. This year’s recipient was Anthony Benbow. Anthony has been with the DFES in Perth for many years and has been actively involved in the efforts to retain apprenticeship training for radio technicians in Western Australia. Andrew has always been happy to be involved in promotion of communications in many Government sectors. Anthony will now be the Western Australian nominee for the prestigious Peter Wallace Industry Professional of the Year award announced in Melbourne in November – congratulations Anthony!
