With the Commonwealth Games to be held on the Gold Coast early in 2018, the ACMA initiated an embargo on licences in the 400MHz spectrum cautioning users that they may not be allowed to use their allocated frequency for the period of the Games.

On behalf of the industry we have raised this as a matter of serious concern with the ACMA and they now recognise our concerns. To any users in the SEQ area we would strongly recommend that if your clients or your own organisation has a need for having access to your radio channels during the period of the games then you should make enquiries regarding seeking an exemption to the embargo conditions.

The ACMA have indicated that there is a process in place and most users who seek an exemption and can provide justification are being approved. Initial enquiries (even before lodging frequency applications) can be made through the Accredited Persons system or direct to the ACMA.
